St. Louis County – In a special meeting of South County Republicans this evening, Tony Pousosa of Green Park was elected as the Republican candidate for the recently vacated 6th County Council seat. Pousosa and John Judd of St. Louis County were nominated by Republicans representing the 6th District. After extended debate, Judd withdrew his name as candidate and Pousosa was elected.

The 6th District seat was vacated by Steve Stenger on December 31st who resigned the position to assume the position of County Executive. This resulted in a call for a special election on April 7th. Both Democrats and Republicans are nominating candidates since there is not enough time for a primary.

Tony is currently employed by BJC HealthCare in their surgical department and is an Alderman in Green Park. He recently ran for St. Louis County Executive and was defeated in a primary by Rick Stream.

The meeting was called by St. Louis County Republican Central Committee Chairman, Bruce Buwalda and chaired by Committeewoman Rene Artman of Fenton. Voting members consisted of citizens elected in their Townships to represent the Missouri Republican Party.
