Every political district in Missouri (State House, State Senate, U.S. Congressional) elects a Committee (Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer) after the November election (every other year). This committee is made up of elected Township Committeemen and Women living in the district. One of their few missions is to find a candidate for that didtrict if the seat becomes available. This year, Jo Ann Emerson has resigned her position as Congresswoman of Missouri’s 8th Congressional District and it will be up to the Republican members of the 8th Congressional District to find a replacement.
Regarding this event, the MOGOP’s Political Director, Steve Michael, sent out this letter:
As you know, Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson recently announced that she was retiring after more than 16 years of service to Southern Missouri. A special election has been called on June 4th to elect her replacement.
According to state law, it is now up to the 8th Congressional District Republican Committee to select the Republican nominee for that election.
Over the past several weeks, the committee members have heard from the interested candidates, and on Saturday, February 9, they will meet in Van Buren, MO, to make their decision.
This meeting is open to the public, and if you are interested in attending, here are the details:
Date: Saturday, February 9 Location: The River Centre at the Landing (www.landingrivercentre.com), Van Buren, MO Time: Doors open at 8:30am; the meeting begins at 10:00am
I know they take this responsibility seriously, and we look forward to their selection of a conservative candidate who reflects the views of the 8th District.
