Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Ann Wagner (R-MO), a member of the House Financial Services Committee, made the following statement after being named to the subcommittee on Capital Markets and Government Sponsored Enterprises and the subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations:
“I am truly grateful and humbled by the trust Chairman Hensarling has placed in me by naming me to these two key subcommittees. With over 84,000 people in the St. Louis region employed by the financial services sector, Missouri’s Second Congressional District is part of a national hub for financial services, and I am eager to begin work on this important committee. “Today, business owners and consumers face higher costs and fewer choices from an onslaught of regulations such as the Dodd-Frank Act. These burdens inhibit job creation, cause uncertainty in the marketplace and restrict the movement of capital to Main Street. As a result, I am ready to get to work and focus my efforts on enacting solutions that will help entrepreneurs raise capital, start businesses and create high-paying middle-class jobs. I am also eager to work with my colleagues to ensure that federal regulators do not restrict the flow, growth, or formation of capital in our economy. “It is truly an honor to serve on a ‘jobs’ committee and I look forward to working with my colleagues to get Washington out of the way and get our economy moving again.”
The Capital Markets and Government Sponsored Enterprises Subcommittee is chaired by Congressman Scott Garrett (NJ) and has jurisdiction over capital markets activity including business capital formation and venture capital. The subcommittee also has jurisdiction over the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and secondary market organizations for home mortgages, including Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
The Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee is chaired by Congressman Patrick McHenry (NC) and has broad responsibility to oversee all agencies, departments, and programs that fall within the jurisdiction of the full committee
